My Accutane Acne Experience week 3

So, week 3 (technically week 2 of the Accutane acne treatment because I’ve only taken 14 pills so far, I accidentally counted the day before I started as week 1) has rolled around and I’m extremely happy to say that improvements have been made!

After being on the treatment for 2 weeks, I’m surprised to see that my face is getting better. Lots of people on this treatment don’t see any improvement until the third or fourth month, so I’m very lucky that my changes have already started. No major changes but I don’t care. It’s only been two weeks and I’ll be happy with any improvement.

What’s changed?

Before taking the pills my face was red on my forehead and down my neck, but that’s improved a lot. My complexion has started evening out more into one colour.

My face isn’t as oily as it used to be. This treatment really drys me out, making me have to apply a lot more moisturizer than I’m used to. I’m always a little hesitant to add more moisturizer, because I usually only dab my face and that’s enough for the day. But now, I’m really ‘drenching’ my face and that’s sometimes barely enough to last the full day.

I use Nivea Crème from the famous blue tin and I’m obsessed. It keeps my face moisturized the entire day, and it’s extremely light. Have you tried it before?

I still have breakouts here and there but they’re not nearly as big as they used to be and definitely not as many. I used to have a couple of pimples on my face, and each one would go away after sometime but then to replace it a new one formed in a new spot on my face. So annoying.

My neck has also gotten so much better. They used to be huge and would hurt, but the breakouts have decreased and don’t hurt at all. They’re almost all gone, yay!

Side effects

Now onto the not so good news. The side effects have worsened. My muscles and joints ache a lot more, especially when I sit in an office chair. My knuckles seem to be cracking a lot more than usual too (but I don’t know if there’s a relationship between the treatment and the cracking). Another issue, that I’m skeptical about is my vision, which has also gotten blurrier. My eyes get worse every year, but they just started getting worse after taking the treatment. Did the pills trigger it? I’m not sure.

Lips have also gotten so much drier and have started to crack, but that’s normal and everyone gets that.

I actually lost my prescription creme that the dermatologist gave me, but I’ve found the best alternative that works so much better. Burt’s Bees Beeswax Lip Balm has been my saviour. It keeps my lips moist for such a long time and tastes good too! And, I can assure you that it’s not one of those lip balms where you have to keep applying because it actually just makes your lips drier. Burt doesn’t do that to you! I can’t stop going on about how amazing this product is, I’m so obsessed. Cheap too!

Week 1 vs. week 3

Here is a comparison from before the treatment started and after taking 14 of the pills. You can see that I wasn’t too pleased about my face before I started taking the pills. Notice the improvements under my eyes and on my forehead? (Keep in mind these pictures are taken right after washing my face, so that’s why my face is really red and irritated).

Overall, I’m pretty pleased with the results and I’m going to continue taking the Accutane acne treatment pills. I’m honestly so excited to see what my face will look like in 6 months. These are crazy improvements for only being on these acne pills for 14 days!
